Wylie City Council heard a presentation last week on an ambitious plan to bring retail and residential space to downtown, making the area more vibrant in the process.

The vision was presented by Sam Satterwhite, Wylie Economic Development Corporation executive, at a joint city council and WEDC board workshop Tuesday, Dec. 8.

“We have an opportunity to create a new downtown Wylie,” Satterwhite said.

Preliminary sketches of the development, to be located on N. Jackson Ave. between W. Marble and W. Oak streets, were provided by McCarthy Architecture of Garland. The property is owned by the city and WEDC.

“We believe there is a use for a mixed-use development,” Satterwhite said. “The future owner will have a lot so say about how it looks. We will either sell it to someone who likes our vision, or we won’t sell it.”

WEDC is providing the concept and will seek developers to take on the project.
