Trustees at the November school board meeting were presented the WISD Education Foundation report by Jordan Adams, executive director for the foundation.
The 2014-’15 school year was successful for the foundation and they are hoping to exceed last year’s performance in 2015-16’.
Last year, the foundation provided $145,000 in grants and $42,500 in scholarships were provided. The annual Boots ‘n’ Barbeque gala held a pledge challenge and raised $30,000 in 30 minutes for three VGo Robots to be used for students who are unable to attend classes in a traditional way.
“The foundation knows that to ride our momentum will only take us so far, so we decided that this year would be a year of change,” Adams said.
The foundation hired Candy Arrington last year to work part-time to assist with documentation, accounting and procedures. She helped establish a five-year plan and was recently moved to full-time employment. In addition Arrington serves on Wylie City Council.
