ROYSE CITY – Less than 24 hours after seeing their 15-game winning streak snapped, the Wylie Pirates faced a defining moment.

With their season on the line Friday, head coach Heather Damron didn’t have to wait long for an answer — her team responded with resilience and urgency.

Wylie came out with renewed energy, setting the tone early and refusing to let the 9-5 Game 1 bi-district playoff loss linger. The Pirates built a 3-0 lead in the third inning and appeared poised to force a decisive Game 3 in the Class 6A Division I series.

But momentum shifted quickly.Royse City erupted for 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning, capitalizing on a mix of timely hitting and unfortunate breaks for Wylie in a season-ending 11-3 loss.

The beginning of the game was all Wylie.

Senior Ava Cook staked the Pirates to a quick 1-0 lead after she crushed the second pitch of the game over the wall in left field.

Cook posted three hits with two home runs, two RBIs and three runs scored in her final career high school game. Gracie Gragert also hit a home run for the Pirates.

Wylie continued to hit the ball hard. Amira Forbit, also a senior, lined the ball into center field for an RBI hit in the third inning, and a dropped fly ball in right field during the ensuing at bat drove in a run for a 3-0 Pirates lead.
