GARLAND — Wylie and Wylie East qualified track and field athletes for the Area 9-6A/10-6A meet, and the Raiders won the team titles in both the boys and girls divisions at the District 9-6A meet, held last Thursday at Williams Stadium.
Wylie East sophomore Evangeline Williams scored 30 team points and earned wins in the 800 (2:18.24), 1,600 (5:09.55) and 3,200 (11:29.35).
Eliana Young had a clearance of 5-7 to win the district title in the girls high jump. Egypt Baxter captured first place in the 200 with a time of 24.68, Oluwaseyi Ajakaiye ran to gold in the 400 in 57.44 and the Lady Raiders later capped off a standout team performance by winning the meet’s final event, the 4×400, with a 4:03.63.
Baxter also qualified for the area meet in the triple jump (36-10.25). Madison Akers took second in both the 800 (2:18.42) and 1,600 (5:12.03) and added a third-place finish in the 3,200 (11:48.00). Avery Reynolds was the runner-up in the pole vault (9-6). MaKyrra Ford punched her ticket to the area meet in the 300 hurdles (45.13).
Landry Titsworth earned bronze in the long jump (18-2.5) and 100 hurdles (15.01). Isabelle Price (fourth, 800, 2:25.66) and Alauna Booker (fourth, 200, 25.52) also qualified for the area meet, as did Wylie East’s 4×100 (second, 48.49). The Raiders completed the sweep of the 4×100 as Wylie East earned first place in the boys division (41.69).
Toi Ardoin set the tone for the Wylie East boys in the sprints, winning the 100 (10.36) and 200 (21.66).
Porter Cantrell won the district title in the discus with a throw of 178-9. Hudson Sepe won the pole vault with a 13-8. Tyree Washington won the triple jump with a leap of 45-3.5.
Berlin Morgan qualified for the area meet in the 110 hurdles (second, 14.4), 300 hurdles (second, 40.28) and long jump (third, 22-3.5).
Daniel Oparah (second, shot put, 46-4.5), Kaleab Endale (second, 3,200, 9:44.21), Jackson Middleton (third, high jump, 6-2), Nolan Nash (fourth, pole vault, 11-6), Kirubel Feyissa (fourth, 800, 2:03.01) and Michael Price (fourth, 3,200, 9:54.93) also qualified for today’s area meet in Royse City, as did the Raiders’ 4×200 (third, 1:28.61).
Wylie crowned four district champions, all on the boys side.
Cash Nweze won a jump-off for the 9-6A title in the high jump with a clearance of 6-2.
Brady Kemp struck for gold in the 1,600 with a time of 4:22.35 and placed second in the 800 with a 2:00.76. Zachary Brumfield won the 800 with a time of 2:00.53. Thorne Owen earned third in 2:00.99.
Aaron Lewis claimed gold in the 400 with a 48.98.
Demarcus Mathews punched his ticket to the area meet in the 100 (third, 10.69) and 200 (second, 22.03).
Noah Smith was the district runner-up in the pole vault (13-0).
Wylie was third in both the 4×100 (42.12) and 4×400 (3:23.91) and fourth in the 4×200 (1:28.49), while the Lady Pirates placed third in the 4×200 (1:42.62).
The Lady Pirates had eight area qualifiers, led by Simi Shodunke, who captured third place in both the high jump (5-2) and triple jump (36-5).
Mollie Laughery earned bronze in the pole vault (8-0), and Favor Alino was third in the shot put (36-7.5) and added a fourth-place finish in the discus (104-11). Molly Stunkard captured fourth in the pole vault (7-6), Ke’Myrie Williams was fourth in the triple jump (36-0.5) and Madison Kemp placed fourth in the 100 (12.38).
