After going 1-1 to begin District 9-6A play, Wylie has since reeled off 12 straight wins, and its torrid stretch over the last six weeks has culminated in another district title.
Wylie defeated Garland 21-3 Friday and clinched the outright district title Saturday after Wylie East lost 13-4 to Rowlett.
Friday’s game featured two 10-run innings by Wylie, the first giving the Pirates a 10-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Julia Barta drove in the first run with an RBI single. Angel Wright, Ka’Dyn Allison, Gracie Gragert and Carlee Casteneda followed with run-scoring singles before Amira Forbit capped the outburst with a three-run home run.
Earlier in the week, Wylie cruised to a 14-4 win over Rowlett. Ava Cook plated the first run with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. Gragert collected three hits and fell a home run short of the cycle.
Garland (11-3), Wylie East (10-4), Sachse (10-4) and Rowlett (9-5) are involved in a four-team battle for the final three playoff spots out of District 9-6A.
All the Raiders needed to do to clinch a second straight playoff berth was earn two wins over Garland and Wylie this week, have Rowlett lose twice, or a combination of one win and one Rowlett loss.
Wylie East picked up its ninth district win April 8, a 26-0 rout of South Garland, and then its 10th win Friday, a 21-0 victory over Naaman Forest.
Gabby Flores hit two home runs and drove in three runs in the Lady Raiders’ win over Naaman Forest. Kennley Gholson collected two hits, drove in four runs and scored three times. Avery Williams, Jayleigh Dressler, Kinley Kovar and Grace Maddux each had two hits. Maddux also starred in the circle, striking out four while allowing just one hit over two shutout innings.
Against South Garland, Wylie East scored 14 runs in the first inning and added 12 more in the second. Gholson collected three hits and drove in four runs, while Haley Perez also had three hits.
