There was no shortage of offense for the Wylie and Wylie East softball teams Wednesday.

Angel Wright and Gracie Gragert each had three hits to pace a 15-hit attack and the Pirates scored 11 runs over the first two innings to take control in an eventual 14-4 run-rule win over Rowlett.

Rowlett, fresh off a 10-0 shutout of Garland, struck first. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead on a two-out single by senior Baylee Grant in the top of the first inning.

Wylie was quick to respond. Ava Cook drove the first pitch in her at bat in the home half of the first over the wall in left field to tie the score at 1-1. The Pirates went on tack score seven runs in the inning. Julia Barta gave Wylie the lead for good with an RBI single. Five batters later, Ka’Dyn Allison drove in the sixth Wylie run with an RBI single and later scored on a Rowlett error for a 7-1 Pirates lead.

The Pirates extended their lead to 11-1 after Katelyn Ashenfelter lined a two-run double into left field during the second inning.

Freshman Avery Neville worked around eight hits and four runs over six innings to notch the win.

Wylie improved to 12-1 in District 9-6A, maintaining its lead over second-place Garland (10-3) and third-place Wylie East (9-3).

Wylie East needed just three innings to dispatch South Garland 26-0.

The Raiders plated 14 runs in the first inning before tacking on 12 additional tallies in the second.

Wylie East sent 18 batters to the plate in the first inning. Jayleigh Dressler drove in the game’s first run with a single, and Gabby Flores followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 Raiders lead. Haley Perez cleared the bases with a three-run triple later in the inning for an 8-0 lead. Two batters later, Dressler drove in a run with a triple. Kennley Gholson capped off the outburst with a run-scoring single for a 14-0 Raiders advantage.

Gholson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Perez also posted three hits. Flores collected two hits and drove in five.

Kinley Kovar and Alex Brownlee combined on a one-hitter with four strikeouts over three shutout innings.
