Halstied has state’s top middle school mark in shot put

An eighth-grader from Wylie has a bright future in the shot put.

Chance Halstied, an eighth-grader at McMillan Middle School, posted a toss of 51 feet, 7 inches at the Royse City-Rockwall-Wylie Middle School Middle on March 30.

That distance of 51-7 is the top mark of any middle school athlete in the state of Texas, according to Mile Split Texas.
