The Wylie boys and girls golf team qualified for the Region II-6A Tournament, while the Wylie East Lady Raiders had one golfer advance to the next round of the postseason.
The Lady Pirates repeated as District 9-6A champion after posting a two-day score of 865 at Firewheel Golf Course.
Sophomore Serina Armendariz repeated as the individual district champion after carding back-to-back rounds of 75 for a total of 150.
Wylie’s other two varsity returners, Nakshatra Siviram (second place, 167) and Reia Armendariz (fourth, 175), also showcased the Lady Pirates’ experience, while varsity newcomers Emma Tran (eighth, 186) and Caroline Scully (187) both carded solid efforts, especially on the first day. Tran carded an 89 on day 1, while Scully had a 92.
“We lost two good ones to graduation, but the three that are back have been talking about state all year,” head coach Jody Aldridge said. “I think that we have a chance. The two that replaced those seniors are getting better every day. They played well this week. We just have to play well at regionals.”
Wylie added an individual regional qualifier from its ‘B’ team, with Anya Briar earning the first of two berths from a non-qualifying team after shooting a two-day total of 183.
Bailey Steiger will represent the Wylie East Lady Raiders at regionals. She carded scores of 95 and 96 for a two-day total of 191.
The Wylie boys qualified for regionals after placing second in the district tournament with a 624.
Wylie’s depth helped the Pirates punch their ticket into regionals, with all five golfers shooting in either the 70s or 80s on both days of the district tournament.
Carson Nash led the way with a 151, good for sixth place. Cooper Knapp took seventh with a 154. Declan Collett carded a 36-hole score of 159. Kannon Freudinger finished with a 160, and Carson Krumbholz had a 164.
