With clear skies and temperatures in the 60s at last Thursday’s Rock Hill Relays, it proved to be a perfect day for the Wylie track and field team to shatter two school records in relay events.
The Pirates’ boys 4×800 clocked a sub-eight-minute time of 7:58.74.
The other school record was achieved by the Lady Pirates in the 4×800, where they clocked a time of 10:08.58, good for fourth place.
Overall, the Pirates amassed 24 top-10 finishes in the boys and girls divisions and also got a win from Aaron Lewis in the boys 400-meter dash (49.0).
Brady Kemp finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:28.42, while Camden Love took second in the 400 in 49.21.
Cash Nweze claimed bronze in the high jump with a clearance of 6-2 and added seventh place in the triple jump with a 40-6.
Noah Smith earned third place in the pole vault with a mark of 13-0.
Wylie’s boys also posted a runner-up finish in the 4×400 (3:24.03) and sixth-place finishes in the 4×100 (42.8) and 4×200 (1:29.06), while the Lady Pirates took third in the 4×200 (1:44.06), fifth in the 4×100 (49.02) and ninth in the 4×400 (4:22.51).
Favor Alino earned second place in the shot put with a throw of 36-9.
Simi Shodunke had a strong day in the field events, earning second place in the triple jump (36-1) and fourth in the high jump (5-2).
