Last week was a busy one for the Wylie and Wylie East track and field teams.
The busy slate for Wylie and Wylie East began with the Mike Williams Invitational, held last Thursday at Wylie ISD Stadium, and it proved to be a very productive day as the two squads combined for 62 top-10 finishes.
The Raiders’ dominance was particularly evident in the long-distance runs. Senior Kaleab Endale won the 3,200 with a time of 9:58.4. He was one of five Raiders to place in the top 10. Junior Michael Price placed second (10:05.37), senior Carter Roberts earned fifth place (10:13.5), senior Roman Lopez was sixth (10:36.87) and senior Benjamin Morrison was ninth (10:42.36). Pirates sophomore Lincoln Shumard took seventh (10:37.24).
Wylie East completed the sweep of the one- and two-mile runs after senior Kirubel Feyissa posted a winning time of 4:33 in the 1,600. Senior John Middleton was 10th in 4:52.1. Wylie sophomore Karter Kekuna clocked a time of 4:47.71, good for eighth.
Junior Berlin Morgan won the 110 hurdles (14.59).
The Raiders also got a runner-up finish from their 4×100 boys relay (41.6), a second-place effort by sophomore Hudson Sepe in the pole vault (13-6), third-place finishes from junior Charles Perry in the 100 (11.3) and senior Eruvwetaghware Oghenerukevwe in the 200 (22.52), and fourth-place finishes by their 4×200 (1:32.41) and 4×400 (3:30.94) relays, as well as junior Brayden Smith in the 300 hurdles (41.74).
Freshman Dallan Thomas ran to fifth in the 200 (22.63), junior Julian Walker was fifth in the high jump (6-2) and sophomore Dane Black was fifth in the 400 (52.01).
On the girls side, Wylie East sophomore Oluwaseyi led the charge for the Lady Raiders in the sprints, earning second in the 400 (58.61) and fourth in the 200 (25.84).
Junior Landry Titsworth ran to bronze in the 100 hurdles (15.3), and senior Avery Reynolds took third in the pole vault (9-6). Sophomore Isabella Price ran to fourth in the 1,600 (5:39.79).
The Lady Raiders placed in the top four in all three relays, finishing second in the 4×200 (1:44.34) and fourth in both the 4×100 (50.3) and 4×400 (4:11.2).
Senior Brooke Altobelli took fifth in the 300 hurdles (48.26). Sophomore Reagan Tolar was fifth in the 1,600 (5:44.04).
Wylie performed just as well at the Mike Williams Invitational, led by a second-place finish in the high jump by senior Simi Shodunke, who cleared 5-0. Senior Olivia Berg earned fifth with a height of 4-10.
Freshman Sade Mathes made a good impression on her home track, placing third in the 100 with a time of 12.7 and adding a seventh-place finish in the 200 with a 26.21.
Last weekend, Wylie, Wylie East and Plano East traveled to College Station for the Texas A&M Bluebonnet High School Invite.
Plano East senior Caitlyn Tran continued her breakout season by earning fourth in the 100 hurdles (13.9). Earlier in the season, Tran clocked a 13.86 at the Ron McNeill Invitational, becoming the first Lady Panther to post a sub-14-second time in the high hurdles.
Her Lady Panthers teammate, sophomore Kourtney Houston, placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 40-11.5. Houston broke the school record Feb. 21 at the Hebron Hawk Invitational with a throw of 41-9.75.
Wylie East earned a pair of top-10 finishes on the girls side, with Young placing fifth in the high jump with a 5-4 and Titsworth finishing seventh out of 34 competitors in the long jump. Titsworth went 18-9.
Wylie was paced by senior Cash Nweze, who was eighth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-4.25. The Pirates’ 4×800 placed ninth with a time of 8:16.48.
