With potential playoff seeding on the line Tuesday, the Wylie boys soccer team earned a crucial 1-0 win over Lakeview Centennial.
The victory moved the Pirates (35 points) to within three points of first-place Sachse (38) and two within second-place Lakeview Centennial (37).
Wylie can clinch a share of the District 9-6A title with a regulation win over Wylie East on Friday and a regulation win by Rowlett over Sachse.
Wylie East also emerged a winner Tuesday, posting a 4-1 victory over Garland. The Raiders (18 points) are three points behind South Garland (21) and North Garland (21) for fourth place with one match remaining for each team.
On the girls’ side, both the Wylie Pirates and Wylie East Raiders have already clinched postseason berths. And they are carrying a lot of momentum as they prepare for the playoffs.
Wylie East defeated Garland 5-0 Tuesday to earn its fifth straight shutout win, while Wylie cruised to an 8-0 mercy-rule win over Lakeview Centennial.
Wylie and Wylie East will play each other Friday in the final regular season matches for both schools.
Bi-district playoff matches for the Wylie and Wylie East girls teams have already been set. The Raiders will play Longview at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium. The Pirates are scheduled to host Rockwall-Heath at 7 p.m. Friday, March 20 at Wylie ISD Stadium.
