This week marks the final week of the regular season for high school soccer teams in Texas, and playoff berths and district titles have either been clinched or will be clinched.
Wylie East continues to hold down second place in 9-6A. The Lady Raiders had little trouble with their opposition last week, earning a 3-0 road victory against Naaman Forest followed by an 8-0 home win over Rowlett last Friday. Senior Trystan Wischnewsky, junior Michela Adams and freshman Kendall Weston each netted one goal against Naaman Forest. Wylie East totaled 14 shots and 17 shots on goal. Goalkeepers Addyson Lomax and Hailey Fincher combined on the win in net.
Wylie, like Wylie East and Sachse, has also secured its spot in the upcoming UIL playoffs.
Wylie overcame a spirited effort by Garland to earn a 3-1 win March 3. Kennedy Butler scored one goal and assisted on another goal. Camryn Sellers and Roni Hartfield each had one goal.
The boys’ standings in 9-6A are even tighter.
Lakeview Centennial, with 37 points, is one point ahead of Sachse’s 36. However, the Mustangs have a game in hand with the Patriots and can win the district title with victories over Naaman Forest and Rowlett. Naaman Forest’s last game of the regular season was against Wylie on Tuesday. The Pirates come in with 32 points and are guaranteed a top-three finish in the 9-6A standings.
A 6-0 win over South Garland on Friday moved the Mustangs closer to a district championship. The Mustangs led 3-0 at halftime before outscoring the Titans 3-0 in the second half. Senior Cameron Sparks had a big seven-point outing with three goals and one assist. Senior Julian Hinojosa notched two goals. Sophomore Jonathan Pacheco finished with one goal. Goalkeepers Josiah Alvarez and Mathew Aguilar combined for a clean sheet. They faced just three shots on goal.
Wylie (10-2-2) made it four straight wins March 3 with a dominant 5-1 victory against Garland. Wylie built a 3-0 halftime lead. Senior Zach Alshali scored two goals to remain red hot on offense. Seniors Talan Weston and Bharath Alrukumar each scored one goal.
Wylie East battled but fell short in a 2-1 loss to Rowlett on Friday.
