Wylie East senior Brooke Bickley received an email from the Texas Girls Coaches Association three weeks ago. The email told her to go to the TGCA website. She clicked on the yellow box and saw that her name had been selected to the Cheer Legacy Class 6A All-State Team by the TGCA.
The TGCA selects a maximum of 20 all-stars from Classes 1A-4A and 5A-6A. Those athletes are selected by the TGCA Spirit Advisory Committee, which is composed of member cheer coaches of the association. Selections are made from nominations by member coaches. Student-athletes must be seniors to be selected.
“I was excited,” Bickley said. “No one that I know has ever made it or been nominated for it at our school. I was just really excited because it’s a really big honor.”
Wylie East varsity cheer coach Wendy Willmon nominated Bickley.
“She’s a well-rounded athlete,” Willmon said. “She is 100 percent in everything — whether it’s academics or cheerleading or competitive cheer. She’s always dependable. Just an all-around amazing human being.”
