CADDO MILLS — The Wylie Pirates delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Monday night, defeating Rockwall-Heath 63-36 in a Class 6A Division I bi-district playoff game at Caddo Mills High School.
Wylie entered the postseason at 21-12 overall and 12-4 in District 9-6A play, and from the opening tip, the Pirates played with urgency on both ends of the floor.
Wylie jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before Rockwall-Heath answered to trim the margin to one. The Pirates responded with a long 3-pointer and closed the first quarter with a buzzer-beating basket to take a 12-7 advantage into the second.
The second quarter proved pivotal. Wylie opened the period with a 3-pointer and extended the lead to double digits after Camden Love knocked down a pair of free throws. Darian Romano added a contested finish in the paint, and the Pirates capitalized at the line to push the margin to 25-13 at halftime.
With the win, Wylie advances to the area round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs and will face the winner of Tuesday’s game between Duncanville and Temple later this week at a date and site to be determined.
