Just like last season, the Sachse, Wylie and Wylie East girls soccer teams have emerged as the top three teams in District 9-6A. With only two games separating the three squads, the battle for the district title will likely come down to the final week of the regular season.

Sachse, at 10-0-1, continues to hold the top spot in the 9-6A standings. The Lady Mustangs earned their 10th district victory last Friday, cruising to a 12-0 triumph over Lakeview Centennial. Three days earlier, defending district champion Wylie provided Sachse its toughest district test and forced the Lady Mustangs to play beyond regulation for the first time all season. Sachse emerged victorious, 5-4 in a shootout, after the two teams played to a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation.

Kate McCallister scored four goals in the rout of Lakeview Centennial, while Lia Lopez and Kylee Blair each added two. McCallister and Lopez both scored in regulation against Wylie, while Blair, Lopez, Sierra Rush, Talya Chacon and Emma Ramirez converted in the shootout.

Wylie quickly moved on from the loss and finished the week with a 7-0 win over South Garland. Kennedy Butler led the offensive effort with four goals. Taylor Kelly added one goal and two assists. Ella Knauss and Maci Hatzenbuehler each scored once.

The goals came early and often for Wylie East last Friday as the Lady Raiders cruised to an 8-0 shutout of North Garland. Wylie East led 5-0 at halftime before adding three more goals in the second half.

In District 9-6A boys action, Sachse (8-1-2) remains in first place, though Lakeview Centennial (7-1-3) is mounting a serious challenge. The Patriots took the Mustangs to a shootout Friday and prevailed 4-2 in penalty kicks after the teams played to a 2-2 tie through 80 minutes of regulation. Senior Julian Hinojosa scored both goals in regulation for Sachse.

Sachse did secure a crucial 1-0 win over third-place Wylie (8-2-2) earlier in the week. After a scoreless first half, Ronquillo assisted on a goal by senior Ahmad Elatrash in the second half, and the Mustangs made it stand. Sophomore goalkeeper Josiah Alvarez recorded six saves in the shutout.

Wylie rebounded later in the week with a 1-0 victory over fourth-place South Garland (4-4-2). Carson Black scored the match’s lone goal.

Wylie East played North Garland last Friday. Results were unavailable at press time. The Raiders are scheduled to return to the pitch Friday at South Garland.
