Wylie East had a total of 13 signees during a National Signing Day ceremony held Feb. 4 at Williams Center.

Three months ago, Carter Dotson, Daniel Oparah, King Baribe, Nash Chapman and Ruke Eruvwetaghware led the Raiders’ football team to a 10-0 regular season — the first in program history — and to their first district title since 2022. All five players will look to carry over that success to the college level.

Chapman, last season’s District 9-6A co-MVP, will play for Colorado State University Pueblo. Dotson inked with Langston University. Baribe is bound for Southeastern Oklahoma State. Eruvwetaghware made it official with Arkansas State. Oparah signed with Abilene Christian University.

Three cross country runners from Wylie East signed last week. Madison Akers, who helped lead the Lady Raiders to their first state meet appearance in program history last fall and was the district champion as a junior, will take her talents to Lamar University. Carter Roberts will run for Dallas Baptist University. John Middleton is also staying in Texas for college, as the Wylie East senior will run for Texas A&M Texarkana starting next fall.

The Wylie East baseball team had three standout players sign on the dotted line. Brandon Johnson and Trent Jones will team up at Richland College, while Colt Sharrer will head north to Kansas to play for Ottawa University.

Nikki Coleman is also bound for Richland College but in women’s soccer. Coleman, who had a team-high nine goals for Wylie East as of last Thursday, will look to help lead the Lady Raiders to a fourth consecutive regional final.
