The threat of a winter storm forced soccer teams to move up their games one day, from Friday to Thursday.

Winter weather and all, Plano East, Sachse, Wylie and Wylie East continued their winning ways on the pitch.

In a battle of regional finalists from last season, the Sachse Lady Mustangs cruised to a 4-1 win over Wylie East and improved to 4-0 in District 9-6A. Oregon pledge Clara Dowdle had two goals and one assist, while Oklahoma commit Kate McCallister contributed one goal and one assist. Lia Lopez had one goal. Talya Chacon posted one assist.

It was the seventh straight win for Sachse (10-2 overall), while Wylie East (8-2, 2-1) saw a six-game win streak end.

Last week wasn’t all for naught for the Lady Raiders, who cruised to a 9-0 win over North Garland on Jan. 20. Wylie East built an 8-0 halftime lead before scoring its ninth goal in the second half. Senior Nikki Coleman, junior Sophie Preston and sophomore Seyi Ajakaiye each had two goals, followed by one each from senior Hannah Warren and juniors Michela Adams and Isabella Cristales. Senior goalkeeper Addyson Lomax turned in a clean sheet for her sixth shutout.

One week after Wylie (10-4, 3-1) was shut out by Sachse, the Lady Pirates responded with a pair of shutout wins themselves. Wylie cruised to a 7-0 victory against South Garland on Jan. 20 and ended last week with a 3-0 shutout of Naaman Forest.

Izzy Ragojo, Kennedy Butler and Ronelyse Hartfield each scored one goal in the win against Naaman Forest, while Savy Pickens set up two of those goals. Maci Hatzenbuehler posted two goals and one assist to lead Wylie past South Garland, while Ragojo, Addalyn Land, Ella Knauss, Harper Cameron and Taylor Kelly each had one goal.

Plano East (3-4-1, 2-2) lost both District 6-6A games last week, falling 4-0 to Prosper and 4-2 against McKinney Boyd.

On the boys’ side, Plano East (5-2-2, 3-1) made it three straight wins following a shootout win against McKinney Boyd at Kimbrough Stadium on Thursday.

Kolby Lee scored for the Panthers in regulation before Plano East edged McKinney 4-3 in the shootout.

To open last week’s action, the Panthers earned a 2-0 road win over Prosper. Erik Ledezma and Larkin Ma-Hain each scored one goal for Plano East.

Sachse is also 3-1 in district competition, with its latest victory being a 3-0 shutout of District 9-6A rival Wylie East (0-3 district). Senior Julian Hinojosa, junior Aiden Ronquillo and sophomore Matvey Strelchik each scored one goal. Ronquillo and Strelchik added one assist apiece.
Sachse racked up 10 shots on goal with three total shots.

Sophomore Josiah Alvarez (three saves in 61 minutes) and senior Mathew Aguilar (one save in 19 minutes) combined for a clean sheet in goal.

Wylie has won its last two district games after starting 0-2. The Pirates notched their first District 9-6A win of the season Jan. 20, earning a 3-1 victory against South Garland.

Luke Montgomery accounted for two of Wylie’s three goals, while Zach Alshali added one goal. Alshali finished last week with two goals. He scored his second goal of the week in Thursday’s 2-1 road win over Naaman Forest. Johnny Kassa also found the back of the net against the Rangers.
