The Wylie East boys and girls basketball teams posted a sweep of Garland on Tuesday.
The Raider boys were particularly dominant. They cruised to a 78-37 home win over the Owls in what was their most complete effort of the season.
The difference was a 25-4 second-quarter run. That run came after Wylie East led by just eight points, 18-10, at the end of the first quarter. The Raiders led 43-14 at halftime and 67-34 at the end of the third quarter.
Preston Samuels scored 19 points to pace a balanced scoring attack for Wylie East. He was one of four Raiders to finish in double figures in scoring. Praise Olufemi netted 13 points, followed by 11 each from Ayden Biscarro-Davila and Brayden Doolan.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Raiders rode a strong defensive effort to earn a 48-34 win over the Lady Owls.
Wylie East held Garland to nine points or less in each quarter.
A nine-point game through the first quarter, the Lady Raiders outscored the Lady Owls 29-15 over the span of the second and third quarters to pull away. Wylie East led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter, 24-17 at halftime and 39-24 at the end of the third quarter.
Sharmayne Jones and Morgan Jennings each had 10 points for the Lady Raiders.
