Before District 9-6A play resumes for the Wylie and Wylie East basketball teams, the Pirates and Raiders ventured to different sites across the Dallas area this week to play in tournaments.

The Wylie boys earned fourth place in Gold Division I at the Allen In-N-Out Holiday Tournament. The Pirates opened with a 56-49 win over Oak Hills (Ca.) on Monday, then lost 56-43 to Pearland Shadow Creek in Tuesday’s semifinals before falling by one point, 56-55, to Summer Creek in Wednesday’s third-place game.

Wylie East’s boys won the consolation title at the Byron Nelson Classic. The Raiders tipped off the tournament with a 59-48 loss to Amarillo Tascosa, but Wylie East finished strong, starting with a 41-35 triumph over Joshua in the consolation semifinals, also Monday. The Raiders finished the two-day tournament with a 59-48 triumph over Cambridge (Milton, Georgia) on Tuesday morning.

The Wylie East Lady Raiders went 2-2 in the Mansfield ISD Spring Creek Invitational. Wylie East struggled in a 66-33 loss to Class 5As No. 8 Amarillo on Monday, but the Lady Raiders bounced back later in the day and found their way back into the win column with a convincing 75-33 victory over Eagle Mountain. Wylie East dropped its next game, a 60-53 loss to Mansfield Lake Ridge, but the Lady Raiders finished with a win, earning a 53-37 victory over Newman Smith in their final game of the tournament Tuesday.

The Wylie Lady Pirates also finished 2025 on a positive note.

Playing against Byron Nelson in its final game in the Dr. Pepper Holiday Invitational, Wylie defeated the Lady Bobcats 58-43 to earn ninth place in the Platinum Gold Girls Division. It was the second straight win for the Lady Pirates, who cruised to a 54-40 victory over Houston Legacy School of Sports Sciences on Tuesday. Wylie began the tournament with a 73-38 loss to Houston Kinkaid on Monday, then lost to Frisco Emerson, 55-49, Tuesday.
