Defense powers 6-0 Wylie past Garland

The Wylie girls basketball team rode a fast start to earn a 59-31 win over Garland at the Montgomery Center on Friday.

The Lady Pirates (12-4 overall, 6-0 District 9-6A) jumped out to a 21-10 lead and never looked back.

Freshman Sade Mathes scored seven of her team-high 14 points in the first quarter. Junior Ronelyse Hartfield also played a key role in the dominant start, scoring eight of her nine points in the opening quarter. Junior Shamya Johnson netted 11 points in the home win.
