ARLINGTON — For the first time in program history, the Wylie East girls cross country team has qualified for the state meet.
The Lady Raiders earned fourth place at the Region II-6A meet at Harold Patterson Sports Complex in the team standings with 172 points, beating out District 9-6A rival Sachse (202), which edged Wylie East at the district meet and ended a string of two consecutive district titles that were won by the Lady Raiders.
Sophomore Evangeline Williams placed second with a time of 17:48.76 to pace the Lady Raiders. Senior Madison Akers (13th, 18:58.49), sophomore Isabelle Price (38th, 19:59.52), sophomore Amiya Runsewe (55th, 20:26.55), senior Alexis Schmidt (80th, 21:02.96), sophomore Reagan Tolar (99th, 21:33.24) and senior Layla Talbott (105th, 21:44.48) will also represent Wylie East at the Class 6A state meet, set for Nov. 1 at Old Settlers Park in Round Round.
Wylie East also has a state qualifier on the boys’ side. Sophomore Kaleab Endale placed 17th with a time of 16:18.02 to earn one of 10 individual berths for state on a non-qualifying team. The top four teams and top 10 individuals on a non-qualifying team earn spots in the state meet.
