First place in District 9-6A was on the line last Friday.

Wylie and Sachse entered the match undefeated in district play, but it was the Lady Pirates who stayed on top of the standings with a dominant 3-0 win (25-8, 25-9, 25-5) at the Montgomery Center.

Junior Julia Hudgins, the team leader in kills, paced Wylie with 16. Juniors Aubrey DeGrate and Keelyn Green added seven kills apiece, with DeGrate also recording two blocks.

The Lady Pirates finished with nine blocks as a team, including a team-high four from senior Peyton Stade. Senior Olivia Royal dished out 17 assists, followed by 10 from sophomore Berkeley Weidinger. Junior Jolene Bao anchored the back row with 21 digs and added three service aces.

The win capped an undefeated week for Wylie, which also earned a 3-0 road victory (25-21, 25-14, 25-14) over Garland on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Bao sparked that effort from the service line, tallying 11 aces—including seven straight in the first set—along with 13 digs. Green (13 kills), Hudgins (12 kills) and DeGrate (11 kills) all finished in double figures, with Hudgins also posting 12 digs. Royal contributed 24 assists, three aces and seven digs, while Weidinger added 14 assists.

Wylie East (10-16, 3-4) saw its two-game win streak snapped in a narrow 3-2 loss (22-25, 16-25, 25-15, 25-15, 15-13) to Naaman Forest, also on Sept. 16. The loss dropped the Lady Raiders to fifth place in District 9-6A.

Two underclassmen have led the Lady Raiders’ offense this season. Freshman Tess Adamic has team highs with 188 kills and 41 service aces, while sophomore Rileigh Brown has added 118 kills.

On defense, junior Lexi Cooper has a team-high 42 blocks on the front row. Senior Jordan Turner has distributed 314 assists, followed by 181 from sophomore Norah Hicks. Freshman libero Sadie Green-Sustaire has stepped into the back row after the graduation of last year’s libero, Jordyn Wacaster, and leads the team with 292 digs.
