Wylie ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday, Sept. 23, to name Acting Superintendent Kim Spicer as the Lone Finalist for superintendent of schools. 

After a required 21-day waiting period, she is expected to become the district’s first female superintendent in its nearly 125-year history.

Spicer has served as deputy superintendent since 2018, overseeing curriculum, athletics, fine arts, career and technical education  and technology. During her leadership, Wylie ISD has consistently earned an A-rating from the Texas Education Agency. In 2022, the district was recognized by Solution Tree as a Model Professional Learning Community at Work District, a three-year designation that highlights collaboration, student achievement and a culture of continuous growth.

Before her current role, Spicer was Wylie ISD’s assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction from 2015 to 2018. She previously worked for Frenship ISD for two decades, including 10 years as principal of Frenship High School. She began her career as a science teacher in West Texas.

Board President Jacob Day said trustees’ decision reflected a desire for stability and vision, crediting Spicer with strengthening instruction and keeping the focus on students.

Spicer said she was honored by the appointment and emphasized the importance of community relationships in Wylie ISD’s success.

She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Lamar University, a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University, and a superintendent certification from Lubbock Christian University.
