Wylie junior quarterback Jabriran Blake scored untouched from the one-yard line late Friday to cap a wild 34-27 win over Sachse in District 9-6A play.
The late touchdown came after Blake found star running back Daylon Gordon wide open in the middle of the field. He carried the ball to the one-yard line with 1:11 left in the game and on the next play, Blake scored for the game-winner with 1:08 left.
Gordon finished with 279 total yards with two touchdown runs, in addition to a 99-yard kickoff return for a score. Blake threw for 245 yards and rushed for 92. Wylie improved to 2-2 overall, 2-0 in 9-6A. Sachse is now 1-2, 1-1.
The Pirates’ victory before a packed homecoming crowd at Wylie Stadium snapped an 18-game district winning streak for the Mustangs. Sachse’s last district loss came against Wylie, a 19-17 setback on Oct. 28, 2022.
The Mustangs scored with 3:40 left in the fourth quarter on a 53-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Christian McCaffrey to senior wide receiver Marcus Rhoden, tying the score at 27-27, but Wylie responded two minutes later with Blake giving the Pirates the lead for good.
The score was set up by a big pass play from Blake to Gordon.
