Wylie, Wylie East sweep district foes

The Wylie volleyball team dominated another District 9-6A rival on Tuesday, while Wylie East earned a crucial win to keep pace in the playoff chase.

Wylie East (9-15 overall, 2-3 District 9-6A) cruised to a 25-7, 25-3, 25-8 win over South Garland from the Williams Center. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Lady Raiders.

Wylie (16-11, 5-0) toppled Rowlett 25-8, 25-11, 25-4 to remain tied with Sachse (12-12, 5-0) for first place in District 9-6A.

The Lady Pirates got another big outing from junior Julia Hudgins, who posted a team-high 18 kills.

Wylie overwhelmed South Garland with its serving as the Lady Pirates notched 18 service aces, 11 by junior Jolene Bao. Bao also led Wylie’s efforts in the back row, finishing with 12 digs. Junior Keelyn Green dished out 11 assists, followed by 10 helpers from senior Olivia Royal.
