One week before Wylie middle blocker Julia Hudgins and outside hitter Keelyn Green are set to begin their junior season playing volleyball for the Lady Pirates, they have found a home to play in college.

On Sunday, Hudgins announced on the Wylie volleyball team’s ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account that she will stay in Texas and play for Lamar University. Less than 24 hours later, on Monday, Green gave a verbal commitment to Old Dominion University. Earlier this summer, July 1, senior setter Olivia Royal committed to Concordia College.

All three players helped to lead Wylie to share of the District 9-6A title last season, with the Lady Pirates earning their first playoff win in four years and later advancing to the Region II-6A Division I semifinals.

Hudgins and Green have been big weapons on what has been a dominant front row for the Lady Pirates. Last season, Hudgins had 246 kills, 23 service aces, 74 blocks and 44 digs, while Green racked up 230 kills, 39 service aces, 22 blocks and 238 digs.

Royal, meanwhile, is expected to step into a bigger role this season after Wylie lost the district’s reining setter of the year, alumnus Taylor Johnson. Despite appearing in just 64 of the team’s 124 sets the Lady Pirates played last season, Royal still put impressive statistics, tallying 214 assists and 24 service aces.
