Community contributions and the city’s financial outlook for the upcoming fiscal year budget were the main topics at Wylie City Council’s regular meeting.
The Tuesday, July 8 meeting began with a series of community recognitions. Representatives from East Fork Masonic Lodge shared the results of this year’s “Battle of the Badges” blood drive, which collected 86 units over two days—enough to potentially assist up to 267 patients according to organizers.
The Wylie Fire Department won the friendly competition against the police department, receiving the most votes from donors. Since 2017, the event has generated more than 1,000 units of donated blood.
Also honored was the Wylie Storm 12U baseball team, which will travel to New York to compete in the Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament. Coaches and players appeared before the council to introduce themselves and express their enthusiasm for the upcoming experience. See the related story in this issue of the News.
In addition, the Wylie Baseball and Softball Association recognized three of its longtime volunteers—Ricardo Sauceda, Matthew Willis and Landon Gregg—for a combined 85 years of service to the city’s youth sports programs. Each was presented with a plaque in appreciation of their dedication.
