by | Jul 10, 2025 | Area News, Latest

Police say there is no threat to the community following the investigation of a man found dead in a vehicle on the property of Akin Elementary School on this afternoon.

According to the Wylie Police Department, officers were dispatched to the school’s parking lot at approximately 2:48 p.m. on July 10 in response to reports of an unconscious male inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, police found the man deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The department’s Crime Scene Unit and investigators responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Authorities confirmed there are no suspects being sought and emphasized that there is no ongoing danger to the public.

Police noted that school was not in session at the time of the incident and the deceased individual is not an employee of the school district. The statement was released in part to address concerns from the community due to the presence of multiple emergency responders on school grounds.

The deceased was identified as a 53-year-old Wylie resident. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

For further information, contact Sergeant Donald English of the Wylie Police Department.
