The Wylie East volleyball team used big runs to down North Forney in four sets (25-15, 25-15, 16-25, 25-13) in a Class 6A-Div. II bi-district playoff game at North Mesquite High School on Monday.

The difference was how dominant the Lady Raiders were in the latter stages of the first two sets. Wylie East closed the opening set on an 11-2 run after clinging to a 14-13 lead and the finished the second set on a 20-5 run after trailing 10-5.

A big run behind the service line by senior Jordyn Wacaster punctuated Wylie East’s big turnaround in set two. She notched three aces in a span of four points to turn a 16-12 lead into a 20-12 advantage.

Aggressive serving was a big theme in Wylie East’s win. The Lady Raiders recorded 19 aces on the evening, including five from senior Julia Hicks and four from Wacaster.

Wylie East will play the Mesquite Horn-Harker Heights winner in the area round later this week at a time and location to be determined.
