Wylie East drops season finale to Highland Park

The Raiders allowed 35 unanswered points in their regular season finale, losing to the Highland Park Scots 38-20.

Wylie East had a great start in the first half. After forcing Highland Park to punt on their first drive, the Raiders drove 99 yards and took a 7-0 lead on a 27-yard rushing touchdown by Terrell Washington Jr. Following a Scot’s field goal, Wylie East extended their lead to 11 points on a 59-yard rushing touchdown by Tristan Lee. 

However, Highland Park responded, scoring 14 consecutive points to lead at halftime. The Scots cut the lead back to four on a 6-yard touchdown run by Sam Heinrich. A 14-yard receiving touchdown by John Rutledge to take a 17-14 advantage heading into the break. Wylie East had a chance to tie it just before halftime, but Westin Waters’ field goal was missed.

Highland Park would score three more touchdowns in the third quarter, building their lead to 24 points. 

With the loss, Wylie East ends the season with a 3-7 record, including 1-5 in district play. Meanwhile, Highland Park (6-0, 9-1) clinched the outright district title.
