Election contests develop as filings close

by | Feb 20, 2019 | Latest

Several contested races developed in the last week that candidates could file for the May 4 elections to city council, school board and college district posts.

Filings were open for a month and closed Friday, Feb. 15.

After the abrupt resignation of Superintendent Ted Moore, the election of three incumbent trustees to the Lovejoy Independent School District Board turned into three contests.

Lovejoy ISD Board President Chad Collins drew Joel Treanor as an opponent for Place 1; Amy Smith in Place 2 now faces John R. Reed and Robbin Wells drew an opponent in Jennifer Kline.

The school board cited alleged misconduct with staff as the reason for the departure of Moore, effective Feb. 13.
