Wylie East girls basketball gave The Colony all they could handle in the area round of the Class 5A Region II playoffs.

In the end it wasn’t quite enough as the Lady Raiders fell 66-58 at McKinney Boyd High School.

The Colony advanced to face Frisco Liberty earlier this week in the regional quarterfinals.

At Boyd, The Colony went ahead 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.

They were outscored 15-12 in the second, but were ahead 33-29 at halftime.

Wylie East made its push in the third quarter putting up 16 points and allowing 13.

Trailing 46-45, they managed 13 in the fourth, but gave up 20 in an eight-point season ending loss.

A’Kasha Davis led the team with 19 points. Also in double figures were Mary Nyakundi with 17 and Maegan Lee chipped in 13.

Followed by five from Morgan Lee and Kymora Westerfield netted four.

Wylie East finished the season 28-6 overall and won a second straight District 15-5A title at 13-1.

In the bi-district round two weeks ago, the Lady Raiders rolled 58-24 over Longview Pine Tree at Wills Point High School.
