Lady Raiders share district lead with Lovejoy

A second straight District 15-5A title is within reach for Wylie East girls basketball.
As of Monday, Jan. 22 they were 23-5 overall and tied for with Lovejoy at 8-1.
Highland Park and Mesquite Poteet had identical 5-4 marks for third.
The Lady Raiders opened this week Tuesday, Jan. 23 with Royse City, which fell in the first match up.
A big rematch, with first place on line, awaits 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26 at Lovejoy.
The Lady Leopards came away with the first round win at Wylie East.
“Our athletes understand the importance of each game. We have a goal of being district champs, so we have been working towards that goal every day to get better,” WEHS head coach Meghan Hodapp said.
Remaining games are with West Mesquite (Jan. 3), at Forney (Feb. 2) and with Highland Park (Feb. 6 on Senior Night) to close out district. All tip off at 7 p.m.
The Lady Raiders opened the second half last week with wins over North Forney 66-33 and Poteet 55-37.
A’Kasha Davis had 20 points, Kymora Westerfield added 13, with 10 each from Maegan Lee and Morgan Lee versus North Forney.
Mary Nyakundi totaled nine and Ka’tlyn Sheffield recorded four.
