Mountains, weather and injuries failed to deter endurance bicyclist Danielle Girdano of Nevada from completing a 2,400-mile ride from Chicago, Ill., to Santa Monica, Calif.; she cut the world record for the route almost in half.
Girdano made the ride, which follows old Route 66 as closely as possible, in 23 days from Sept. 18 to Oct. 11. The old record was 44 days.
