McMillan, Burnett teams meet on gridiron

The McMillan eighth-grade football teams got off to excellent starts this past week, as each prevailed over Burnett.

The Marauder Black team blanked the Bucs 24-0, scoring 16 points in the game’s first five minutes; running back Darrick McClendon scored twice on the ground, and then blocked a punt before recovering it in the end zone. Defensive end Kaden Banks made a living in the Burnett backfield, contributing a sack and three tackles for a loss.

The White team recorded an 18-6 victory over the Bucs, with Riley Cook leading the ground assault and Colby Tallant intercepting two passes on defense; he returned one of them 70 yards for a score.
Meanwhile, the Blue team took advantage of two turnovers to record a 26-0 win.

In seventh-grade action, the Marauder White team edged Burnett 14-13 at Wylie East High School, with Raul Fierro and Dylan Ruelas leading the offense, and Riley Samuel standing out on defense. Colby Atkins ran for a touchdown and completed another one to Xander Carker for Burnett.

The McMillan Black team engaged in a defensive struggle, which ended in a 13-6 loss to Burnett. Seth Kramer and Logan Popelka led the offense, with the defensive standout being Xavier Cole. The Buccaneers prevailed behind the strong running of Tyler Jackson, with Pierce Hallan tossing two touchdown passes. Hallan first connected with Kyle Mauldin and then Caden Roesehen on those throws.

 

Junior high volleyball

The Cooper Lady Patriot eighth-grade A volleyball team outlasted the Allen Ford Mustangs, winning the first contest 25-16, losing the second 22-25 before clinching things with a 25-18 victory.  Audrey Lockhart stood out for the Lady Patriots.

Cooper’s eighth-grade B team played hard against Allen Ford, but ultimately was defeated in two games, while the C squad fell in three games for Ford.

The Lady Patriots’ seventh-grade Maroon team lost 27-25, 16-25, 16-25 to the Ford Lady Mustangs, while the White girls dropped a 25-20, 22-25, 18-25 decision. Carrington Johnson had some great attacks and Priscilla Nieto have some great passes to initiate the attack.

Cooper’s seventh-grade Blue team prevailed 25-6 25-7, with Devin Chaky, Aniyah Hall and Reagan Lee having some great rallies to extend the lead.

 

McMillan volleyball

The Lady Marauder seventh-grade Maroon team defeated Rockwall Williams in three games, 6-25, 25-17, 25-19.

However, the seventh-grade White came up short against Williams 10-25, 19-25, while the Black team came up short, 9-25,12-25.

McMillan’s eighth-grade White team fell 18-25, 15-25 to Williams, while the Maroon got bloodied 7-25, 10-25. The Black team fell 19-25, 29-30.
