Wylie understands what it’s like to have one’s back to the wall.

This past week, the Pirates were slightly in that position when they hosted Denison at Wylie Stadium.

At kickoff, the Pirates were 1-1 following a loss the week before to cross-town rival Wylie East.

A loss to the Yellowjackets would have put the Pirates behind the proverbial eight-ball in the 10-5A standings. However, Wylie stepped up and responded with a 31-21 win that improved their 10-5A record to 2-1.

This week, though, it’s the Pirates’ opponent, Prosper, which finds itself in a win-or-else situation, having dropped to 1-2 in district play after a 32-31 loss last Friday to Wylie East.

A loss to Wylie would come close to eliminating the Eagles from postseason contention, and head coach Bill Howard knows Prosper isn’t going to let that happen without a fight.
