WYLIE — If the Wylie East Raiders wanted a measuring stick to determine where they are as a team, they’ll be up against one this Thursday evening during the 2016 home opener.
That’s when the state-ranked and currently unbeaten Denton Ryan (2-0) — these Raiders are ranked No. 1 in some area polls — will pay a visit for the non-district finale.
This past weekend, while East was erasing Hallsville 49-0, Ryan upended Mesquite Poteet 24-13; the Pirates are also a member of District 15-5A like the Raiders.
“There is a reason I like scheduling Denton Ryan,” East head coach Joe Lepsis said. “They let you know where you are at, and they are going to expose your weaknesses … We are seeing good things, and some bad things, because it is the second week of the season. You’ve got three days to get yourself better, and if you don’t, they are going to expose it offensively and defensively, and on special teams.”
