Pedal car race returns to downtown Wylie

by | Apr 23, 2026 | Area News, Latest, Life & Style

The 2026 Wylie 500 Pedal Car Race will roll through historic downtown Wylie on Sunday, May 3, offering a family-friendly event for the city’s youngest residents.

Hosted by Discover Wylie in partnership with the Wylie Downtown Merchants Association, the City of Wylie, Ballard Street Cafe and Community Wealth Advisors–Raymond James, the event invites children ages 2 to 5 to race pedal cars along Ballard Avenue.

Participants will compete in short heats, racing approximately 500 inches in pedal cars provided by local merchants. Races will be divided into two age groups: ages 2-3 and ages 4-5, with winners in each bracket receiving trophies.

The cost to participate is $15 per child, which includes a T-shirt and ribbon. Event proceeds will benefit area Special Olympics programs as well as beautification efforts in historic downtown Wylie.

Check-in for children ages 2-3 begins at 1 p.m., with races starting at 2 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive no later than 1:45 p.m. Children ages 4-5 may check in between 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m., with races scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Children with siblings in the younger division may check in earlier.

Spots are limited, and organizers encourage families to register in advance. The event will be held rain or shine.
