The city of Rowlett has begun the process of selecting its next fire chief following the announced retirement of Fire Chief Tim Gauthier, and Wylie City Manager Brent Parker is among four finalists under consideration.

Gauthier is retiring after nearly 28 years of service with the Rowlett Fire Department. City officials credit his tenure with leaving a lasting impact on the department and the community. His retirement prompted a nationwide search for a successor.

Rowlett partnered with a national recruiting firm and received more than 50 applications from candidates across the country. After reviewing those applications, an internal selection committee advanced four finalists who will participate in interviews and a public meet-and-greet later this month.

Finalist interviews are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026. A community meet-and-greet is planned from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Rowlett Community Centre, giving residents an opportunity to meet the candidates and provide feedback.

One of the finalists is Parker, who currently serves as Wylie’s city manager. Parker was appointed to the position in May 2022 after previously serving as interim city manager and assistant city manager. He has more than 24 years of experience in local government and has previously served as fire chief of Wylie Fire Rescue. He has held leadership roles in the fire service since 2001.

Rowlett officials have encouraged community members to attend the meet-and-greet and share their perspectives as the city moves toward selecting its next fire chief.

For Wylie residents, Parker’s inclusion as a finalist represents a development to watch as the city of Rowlett considers candidates for one of its top public safety leadership positions.
