Lady Raiders finish with all-district honors

by | Dec 2, 2021 | Latest, Sports

The Wylie East volleyball team was honored after a successful 2021 campaign with several teammates earning all-district recognition.

The Lady Raiders had their best season since 2017, finishing with a 19-16 record. They were 9-5 in district play to earn third place and their fourth consecutive playoff appearance.

Nine Wylie East athletes earned postseason honors.

“Every one of these athletes worked really hard this season and deserve these awards,” East coach Lisa Curry said. “I am very proud of each and every one of them. It is always great to see three of these all district awards go to freshmen, this means that we have a great future ahead of us here at Wylie East.”

Miranda Howard won the district’s defensive player of the year award. The senior outside hitter played all four years on the varsity team all over the court, serving as one of the team’s best all-around players this season.

“Miranda is one of our seniors that we will miss next year,” Curry said. “She led our team in kills and also in digs. I look for great things from her when she plays in college.
