Six Pirates earn all-district awards

With the season winding down, the Wylie Pirates and Sachse Mustangs earned all-district honors.

Sachse finished second in the district with a 6-1 record, while Wylie finished just outside the playoffs in fifth place. While they had no superlative winners, Wylie is represented by four first-team all-district players and six second-team players in the District 9-6A awards.

Making the first team for the Pirates on offense was running back Blake Fuller and wide receiver Seth Kramer.

Fuller the Pirates this season as a senior captain, finishing with 1,092 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. He also was a force in the passing game with 282 yards receiving and four touchdowns. For the year, Fuller led the team with 1,519 all-purpose yards. Head coach Jimmy Carter praised his leadership and work ethic throughout the season.

Along with Fuller, Kramer led the Pirates with 559 yards receiving and four touchdown catches on the year. The senior carried the Pirates receiving core that dealt with a flurry of injuries, including to starters Cam Pruitt and Adrian Bryant throughout the season.

Defensively, Pirate standouts Canyon Hall and Tristan Steward were named to the first-team all-district.

Hall led the Pirates with 79 tackles and five pass deflections for the season, adding a forced fumble and interception. Another senior captain, Hall’s leadership on and off the field as he’s learned multiple positions and excelled is an attribute that stood out to coach Carter.

Steward finished the season with 32 tackles and five tackles for loss this season. He brought pressure off the edge all season, leading the Pirates in quarterback hurries this season.

Second team members for the Pirates include quarterback Isaac Phe, offensive linemen Josh Hernandez and Matthew Schell, linebacker Christian Resurreccion, safety Sean Carter and punter Cole Hatzenbuehler.

Carter was second on the team with 60 tackles and two interceptions, while Resurreccion led the team with two sacks. In his first year as starter for the Pirates, Phe had 1,900 yards passing and 18 touchdowns.

All-district honorable mention players for Wylie include tight end Hatzenbuehler, Ralston Ulmer, Austin Fabian, Bryan Washington, Jaylen Alexander, Brock Sherman, Gage Phillips and Max Kaufman. Alexander led the Pirates with two interceptions.
