Wylie’s season ends with loss to North Garland

by | Nov 5, 2021 | Latest, Sports

One win and Wylie was in the playoffs.

Wylie (3-4, 3-7) head coach Jimmy Carter stressed that the Pirates needed just one win in the final two games. A slow start against North Garland (3-4, 6-4) proved costly, with the Raiders winning 30-14.

North Garland scored the first 13 points before a fumble gave Wylie excellent field position after punting on its first two possessions. Unfortunately for the Pirates, an interception gave the ball right back.

Wylie threw three interceptions and fumbled once in the game while trying to mount the second-half comeback. Quarterback Isaac Phe attempted to lead the rally with two long touchdown passes — one to Blake Fuller and one to Adrian Bryant — but North Garland’s 319 yards rushing proved too much to overcome.

The win means Wylie misses the postseason, with North Garland advancing on the head-to-head tiebreaker. It is the first time in three years that the Pirates will not play in the playoffs.

A full recap of Wylie versus North Garland will be available in next week’s issue of The Wylie News.
