Pirates lose in bi-district round

by | Nov 3, 2021 | Latest, Sports

The Wylie Pirates performed well in district play to reach the playoffs.

However, their playoff run only lasted three sets, as Wylie couldn’t overcome its errors and lost 3-0 (20-25, 23-25 and 20-25) to Mesquite Horn on Nov. 2. With all three sets coming down to the wire, the Pirates committed 19 attacking errors and eight service errors in defeat.

Leading the way for Wylie was freshman Karson Barclow, who had 14 kills in the match. After playing Horn twice in the regular season and splitting the two games, the Lady Jaguars had the upper hand at Rockwall High School.

With a young roster, Wylie finished the season 24-17 and 12-2 in District 9-6A play. Cori Westfall, Mika Niimi, Uwana Afangideh and Christen Peterson were the seniors on the roster. Westfall finished the season with a team-leading 304 assists for the year.

Mesquite Horn advances to play DeSoto in the area championship round.
