Wylie East chops Red Oak

It was no surprise that Wylie East’s offense performed well in last Friday’s season-opening 49-7 win against Red Oak. After all, it was a unit that returned a number of high-powered players from last year’s playoff team.

However, it was East’s defensive play that left head coach Joe Lepsis feeling good, and something that portends well for the rest of the season. In the past, Raider defenses have been bend-but-don’t-break units that surrender yards, and sometimes points, but ones that also came up with big plays.

Against the rebuilding Hawks at Wylie Stadium, East’s 11 kept its foe out of the end zone until the fourth quarter.
